Hamiltonian

In quantum mechanics, the Hamilton operator Ĥ is an observable that gives (possible) energy readings and time evolution.

Explanation

The Hamilton operator acts in a complex Hilbert space , the quantity to be determined |Ψ (t)⟩ is a state vector in this space.

History

The Irish mathematician William Rowan Hamilton invented this operator in 1843.
